From Barbie Heads to Make Waves: My Journey to Creating the Salon of My Dreams

I’m so excited to share a little bit about myself and the story behind Make Waves Hair Salon. As a hairstylist for over 12 years, I’ve had the privilege of transforming not only hair but also the way people feel about themselves. But it wasn’t always this way—my journey to opening this salon has been full of twists, turns, and plenty of “aha” moments.
The Early Years: A Barbie Head and a Dream
I know it sounds funny, but my hair journey really started with a Barbie head at 8 years old. Yep! I would spend hours combing, braiding, and styling her hair, creating every look I could imagine. Little did I know, that would spark my lifelong passion for hair.
From there, I just couldn’t get enough of it—whether it was experimenting with my own hair or helping friends with theirs. By the time I was in middle school, a local hairstylist gave me some advice that changed my life: "You should go to hair school." At the time, I had no idea just how much that little suggestion would shape my future.
The Turning Point: From Orange County to Spring, Texas
Fast forward to 9 years ago, when I made the big move from Orange County to Spring, Texas, with my first baby in tow. Starting fresh was definitely intimidating, but I knew it was the perfect time to begin the next chapter of my career. I had spent years working in salons, learning new techniques, and refining my craft, and it was time to take the leap into owning my own space.
It was scary to step away from the security of a traditional salon and create a place where I could focus on my love for hair health and honesty. But when I opened Make Waves Hair Salon, it wasn’t just about doing hair—it was about providing a space where clients could come in, be themselves, and walk out feeling like the best version of themselves.
Why I Focus on Low-Maintenance, Beautiful Hair
As a busy mom and business owner myself, I totally understand how challenging it can be to juggle everything while still looking good. That’s why I’ve built Make Waves around the idea of low-maintenance, long-lasting hair. I specialize in colors and styles that gracefully evolve, meaning you don’t have to stress about harsh regrowth lines or constant touch-ups. Plus, I’ve always believed that great hair isn’t just about looking pretty—it’s about feeling confident and at ease in your own skin.
I know firsthand how life can get in the way of constant salon visits, so I’ve made it my mission to create styles that give you a sun-kissed, beachy vibe that grows out beautifully. It’s all about giving you the confidence to show up to your life feeling good, without the pressure to maintain a perfect look.
Relatable Styling Tips for Busy Lives
Having been in your shoes, I’ve learned a few things along the way that I love to share with my clients. One of my favorite tips is simple: embrace the natural texture and movement of your hair. Whether you’re looking for soft waves or sleek strands, sometimes the best look is one that requires minimal effort but makes you feel fabulous. I’m here to show you how to make that happen!
Another big lesson I’ve learned is how important it is to listen to your hair—and to be honest with yourself about what works. Every person’s hair is different, and that’s why I love personalizing my services to meet each individual’s needs. Whether it’s a custom color or a new style, we’ll work together to find what works best for you.
The Heart of Make Waves: Honesty, Health, and Style
At Make Waves Hair Salon, the goal is simple: make you feel seen, heard, and valued. Whether you’re here for a quick trim or a complete transformation, I’m always committed to prioritizing your hair’s health. You won’t find any gimmicks or tricks here—just honest advice, beautiful results, and a warm, welcoming environment.
I believe every guest who walks through my doors deserves to feel like they’ve had an experience—not just a haircut. So, whether you’re a busy mom, a corporate professional, or anyone in between, I’m here t
o make your hair experience as easy and enjoyable as possible.
